You Can.....
You have some great employees, and it is always rewarding when you are able to promote them to become supervisors and managers.
Unfortunately, being a great line employee does not guarantee being a great supervisor. New roles, activities and skills will be required.
Sterling Consulting offers a developmental series designed to strengthen your new supervisors and entry level managers. More than a class, this training covers all of the major areas of responsibility critical for successful supervisors and managers to master.
SUPERVISOR DEVELOPMENT
"STRONG SUPERVISORS" SERIES
Invest in your supervisors. Give them skills, give them knowledge, give them confidence. Their success will be your success.
Budgeting & Finance - This is not an Excel class. This is where supervisors learn the basics about revenue, expenses, budget cycles, and how their part of the company affects and is affected by these factors. How variable is the revenue that supports their team, and how directly do specific team activities affect this revenue? What portion of expenses can be controlled and/or reduced, and what investments of resources can ultimately generate more revenue (ROI)? What part do they contribute to the budget process and how does that affect planning, workload and time management? Even supervisors with limited P&L responsibility benefit from understanding the interconnectednees between their teams' activities and the ultimate financial position of the department and the company or organization.
Supervision & Performance Management - Essential elements of managing the work of others are covered. When to coach, when to discipline, how to ask for change. What do supervisors do when they are the "boss" and no longer just one of the group? With supervision comes the responsibility to know and follow basic labor rules. How does the supervisor's company manage these rules? Does the supervisor hire and fire, and how does the supervisor participate most effectively in those critical processes? Being the leader of a team requires understanding what motivates employees and how to bring out the best from different people under sometimes changing and demanding circumstances.
Quality, Compliance and Ethics - Virtually all businesses and organizations employ quality and/or standards processes to promote excellence in their activities and products. Sometimes these processes are imposed by external entities as a condition of doing business. Supervisors must understand critical performance requirements and their responsibilities in meeting them. Compliance requirements are sometimes included as part of quality processes, or they may stand alone. Supervisors must be attuned to their organization's culture and role in supporting organizational compliance. Throughout these activities and virtually all others, ethical behavior is critically important as supervisors make decisions affecting employees, clients and customers, and the company's interests.
Administration & Organizational Skills - Supervisors' responsibilities often include involvement in purchasing, IT systems, reporting and facility management, in addition to the "supervising" part of their jobs. Learning practices and techniques to manage these activities helps supervisors to meet their responsibilities and get the most out of their time spent in these areas.
Communication Skills - Every aspect of supervisors' activities employ communication. Participants will be able to identify common roadblocks to good communication and develop skills that are critical for effective communication including: listening, assertive problem solving, and conflict resolution.
Employers can take advantage of this supervisor development series in three different ways depending on their needs. Supervisors can be enrolled in the entire series delivered at Sterling Consulting's training facility or they can attend only those sessions of greatest interest. For larger employers, this series can also be delivered on site to a group comprised of its own supervisors. This option allows for the trainer to customize the sessions, incorporating your materials and processes
